Website prices in the UK range from free to five figures, which makes it hard to know what's fair. The honest answer is that you're paying for time, and the time depends on what the site needs to do.

DIY builders cost a monthly fee and your evenings. A freelancer with a template typically charges a few hundred to around £1,500. A custom small-business site - designed around your customers, fast, and built to rank - usually sits between £1,500 and £5,000. Online stores and bigger builds go up from there.

Whatever you spend, ask for a fixed quote, check that you'll own the site and the domain, and find out what ongoing costs look like. A cheap site that doesn't bring in enquiries is the most expensive option of all.
